To our friends in the UK: What is your opinion of the United States? (Part II)?
It depends really. I have only ever been to New York, which represents a small part of America, & I loved it. Great place with great people. I would ask are you taking the piss with you second & third sentences. I would agree with bits of those sentences like "ignorant" but I would dis-agree with "enlightened social values". Britain has big social probs at present which the current government has little control over. But to answer your question I have an impression of ignorant/arrogant people who seem to think that the world revolves around America. Saying that to some degree it does. You only have to look at the "credit crunch" to see how what happens in America affects the rest of the world. But that is half the problem when America does **** up it does not seem to accept it has done wrong. For years it allowed people to finance the IRA which only stopped when 9/11 happened. Yet most of America is technically built on stolen land. The American native indians have nothing. Genocide is the word that comes to mind. Are the American Indians going to get thier land back. I think not. Technically the Americans speak English not American only the native American indians speak American. With that in mind the Americans then throw there self righteous Weight around the world. This is what really pisses me off it is like America can do no wrong. It accepts no liability for anything yet expects the world to say how high when it says jump. 9/11 rightly or wrongly is a result of that. Some of its sports leagues are even called the world series when only American teams play. Britain has its probelems, trust me, social values!.......What social values. I will visit America again & I am sure I will find the American a nice place to visit with nice people..
