Aren't McCain's attacks getting sad? What happened to bipartisanism, maverick, country first etc?

Each day brings us a new mudslinging attack dujour. What has happened to the respectable, noble, "above-it-all", John McCain we knew and loved? Have the hawks and evangelists gotten to him?
